Joshua Tree for Jane

A quick recap of Jane’s 30th in Joshua Tree!

Happy 30th birthday to Jane, one of my first Los Angeles friends! I couldn’t have asked for a better group of ladies and gents to spend my last Friday in SoCal with. Suggie and Nikki drove down from San Fran. Janet rode her bike out. Jane broke down on the freeway. Leon, no surprise, cut hair. Leo brought multiple film cameras and took priceless pics.

Weekend retreats to the desert make me miss LA, but friends like these make me miss it more. Maybe a little AirBNB is in my future?

If You’re Going to San Francisco

Be sure to wear, some flowers in your hair.

Also make sure to bring a tripod, thrift shop, shoot tons of photos, attend a wedding and ask strangers about Social Security.

Be Polite

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

I spotted this mattress message a few weeks ago, and ever since have been scouting my shot. It’s one of those photos I just had to have. Tonight I saw the opportunity and seized it.

What irony in this man’s message? He has so little, and living on the streets probably sees some of LA’s harshest conditions. His simple message “Be polite” is a reminder to us all.

Whether it’s your business partner, catty client, signifiant other, parent, friend, or even that rush hour jerk riding your tail, be polite. You never know what someone is going through. Your kindness can make someone’s day.

I’ll be the first to admit, I can be a real beez. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of LA. I get impatient. I get annoyed. I get so caught up in my own life, I can forget about others. A message like this brings me back. I have so much to be thankful for. I have no reason to be impolite.

At the end of the day, it’s how we treat one another. Society is so fast-paced, we forget common courtesies. We forget our manners. We’ve forgotten how to be polite. Imagine what we would accomplish if everyone did one good deed a day?

Squatting to take my photo, and ignoring the subtle smell of urine, I thanked this man for making my day. I prayed the universe would be kind to him. Before taking off I slipped a few bucks under his pillow, you know, to be polite.

5th Avenue Apple Store

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

A quick snapshot from last night’s walk home. How could I not photograph the 5th Avenue Apple Store!? Mom, this photo is for you. ^_^

On another note, the Department of Justice today filed suit against Apple for their e-book prices. I guess when the government is broke, go after one of the richest companies in the world.

Click here and read about your tax dollars at work, or be like me, and call the DOJ at 202-353-1555.

Come to My Window

Monday, March 5th, 2012

I’ll be home soon…

Or so it will seem.

Housesitting for the bosses while they’re in China. A little repayment for cancellation of my trip, and I’m not complaining.

This is my view for the next two(ish) weeks. I have no idea when I’m coming back. They bought me a one-way ticket.

Stomping around the Lower East Side, all city-slicker in all black. Feeling like a big city girl. Flashbacks to Beijing. I love NY but could never live here.

[Don’t quote me on that.]

LA I’ll be back soon.
