Never Forget

The Tian’anmen Square massacre happened only 23 years ago. Hundreds, if not thousands, died for freedom.

Think it can’t happen here? Think of NDAA. Inform yourself. Prepare yourself.

My mom purchased a new painting last weekend at the Antique Show in Pasco!

What makes this piece POTD worthy? Well for starters it is Chinese art. My mom said it reminded her of my time in China. But that’s not the biggie…

My mom bought the piece from Karolyn Grimes. Who is Karolyn Grimes? She’s none other than Zuzu from It’s A Wonderful Life, my mom’s all-time favorite holiday movie guaranteed to make her cry every year.

Now do you see where I get my penchant for real art!? Ok, so I’ve been known to cry at movies as well… And those damn ASPCA commercials.

The Truth About China

Monday, December 27th, 2010

I realized last week marked six months of being home from China. I dug into my computer archives and found a blog I’d remembered writing.

I wrote this blog while sleep deprived in the Tokyo airport. During my last three days in China, I’d only gotten one hour of sleep. I was that busy. I popped three Tylenol PM and started writing. Words flowed freely in my sleep starved mental state. I wrote exactly what I felt: my thoughts, feelings and emotions. Then I fell asleep, only to wake up to my flight departing in 20 minutes. I got on the plane, passed out and forgot all about this blog. Until now.

Lately I’ve felt a lot of positive energy surrounding me, and this afternoon’s surprise package confirmed those beliefs.

On February 12, 2010 my mom sent a Valentine’s Day package to China. She mailed the box from the United States Postal Service on Bainbridge Island, Washington. I eagerly awaited the arrival of my package. Mom stocked up on American candy and DVD’s. Instant homesickness cure.

Weeks went by, and still no package. Eventually those weeks turned to months. Still no package. Before I knew it, I was packing to come home, and still no stinkin’ box. “Curse you China,” I thought, “someone is enjoying my candy DVD’s!”

I’d practically given up hope that Mom’s gift would come, until this morning. I went out to water the gardens when I spotted a beat up package on our mailbox. I noticed the familiar Chinese address and instantly knew. My package found it’s way home!

After taking a few pictures, I tore into the box. Mom hooked me up with a card, tons of candy, six DVD’s and the complete third season of Sex and the City!

Even though it took six months to get here, stale Valentine’s Day candy is amazing. The whole “lost package” situation reminded me the importance of patience. Sometimes good things take time. In the end, what’s meant to be will be.

Ok, so I’m cheating. I took this photo yesterday (Thursday). However, it is just too perfect to not be my POTD. I’m home. Well, not quite. Technically I’m still in Beijing writing this, but I’m scheduling this blog to be posted the the same time I touchdown. Plus after 24 hours of travel and sketchy airport internet, I might be unable to update my POTD. So here it is. “Home is whenever I’m with you…”
