Let’s Talk About Debt

Monday, January 20th, 2014

bsnn2-01

Let’s talk about debt baby. Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the bad things, and more bad things, debt may bring. Let’s talk about debt…

What is our national debt? Is it a few billion, $1 trillion, $2 trillion or even a few trillion? What if I told you our national debt is $17 trillion US dollars? How does that number make you feel? Millennials, how do you feel knowing our generation will have to pay back debt accrued by previous generations? Moreover, where is the money going?

I went to Santa Monica College to ask these very questions. The answers received frightened me (no one knew our national debt) and enlightened me (our generation does care, and wants a voice).

Here’s a little video compilation of my street intercepts. The few hours I spent conducting intercepts opened a floodgate of ideas. This is just the beginning, so stay tuned for future installments.

The national debt is no longer about political parties. Speaker Boehner passed a $1.1 trillion budget on Wednesday. Obama is spending another $1 trillion taxpayer dollars to bail out insurance companies over the next ten years. We are being sold out.

Millennials, your thoughts on the national debt? Does it matter? Why? Why not? Has anyone thought about what will happen when this all collapses? Do you hear anyone from speaking up on the matter?

I believe it’s our generation, and we’re empowered.

*A huge thank you to my friend Chris for drawing his interpretation of Obama and our national debt!

**Apologies for audio issues. I shot this impromptu with my digital camera, and there’s no external mic component. Maybe a camera upgrade is in my near future?

Vinca

What do you get when you combine jewelry, a cat, an eye patch and made in Austin? You get my latest baubles from Vinca!

Vinca’s quirky designs bring out the awesome in all of us. Started in 2006, head designer Amanda Dimova grew the brand from a one-woman operation into global sales, from Amsterdam to Korea. All the wooden and acrylic parts are drawn by Amanda, then assembled in house. They like to call it “micro-manufacturing” with a vast majority of parts also being sourced in the States. ‘Merica!

Vinca offers a wide array of designs, perfect for your mom, cousin, fitness instructor, friend, boss, and even unisex pieces for your boyfriend.

For a crazy cat woman like me, what’s better than a cat pirate? I’ve worn these pieces all weekend, and will wear them for many more.

Click here to view Vinca’s full collection. Other favorites include the fox and tail set, states necklace and bacon, eggs and toast necklace. Good luck narrowing down your top picks!

If Vinca partnered in a future blog giveaway, what pieces would you hope to see? :]

Fads fade and relationships fail, so thank goodness diamonds are forever. Throw in responsible sourcing and laser inscription, and you have Forevermark.

Forevermark is a brand from the well-known De Beers group. Less than one percent of the world’s diamonds possess the qualities of a Forevermark diamond. Each stone comes from a responsibly sourced, carefully selected mine. A small laser inscription ensures Forevermark’s source and quality.

Nowadays, you can wear a diamond that’s beautiful and socially responsible. That’s a trend that will last forever.

If you watched the Golden Globes, it was hard to miss the bling on Olivia Wilde and Giuliana Rancic. Anyone else recognize Rancic’s 14.58 carat ring!?

p.s. Apologies to my parents for pranking them that I got engaged this weekend :]
