I am Davines

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Thank you Brittanie for (again) dying my brilliant brunette locks!

I can’t write a beauty blog without giving some love to Davines, one of my new favorite haircare lines. Brittanie got me turned on to them when she suggested the Nounou pak. You know that after-haircut feeling? With Nouou, I get that every time I condition. No joke. If you have fine or damaged hair, this conditioner is a must and is without a doubt worth the few extra bucks.

As for my color, don’t worry it’s the exact same, only with more shine and dimension. You know those Pantene models? Today that is me. (tosses hair)

Memorial Day 2011

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Happy Memorial Day!!

I want to say thank you to all our troops, present and past, home and overseas, active and reserve, for protecting our country, fighting for freedom and keeping America safe. You make our country the land of the free and home of the brave!

On another note, I literally ate enough food for a small family, which doesn’t bode well with my bikini body. Hummus and chips. Flank steak and chicken. Potatoes. Rolls. Blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream. I’m going to explode just thinking about it.

The longer I’m home, the more I eat, and the more I eat, the more I seriously consider the Master Cleanse upon my return to LA…

Three Clubs

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

Last night I photographed The New Limb and Robotanists at Three Clubs in Hollywood.

My friend Joseph, also a Tri-Cities native, works in the music industry and suggested I come out to take pictures. I’m certainly glad I did. Three Clubs is a hip martini lounge reminiscent of classic LA. In an odd way, walking in the doors felt like walking back in time. But enough about decor, more about the bands…

Robotanists killed it and The New Limb left me dancing. Sarah, the singer of Robotanists, has a killer set of pipes and clearly great taste in heels. The New Limb, a self described IndieRockFolkAlt band, I could listen to for hours. Joseph said their last few tracks (and my personal favs) are new. Lauren, the keyboardist, gave me an album which will definitely be included in an upcoming iMix!

Looking to branch out musically? Check out The New Limb and Robotanists. Looking to branch out socially? Hit up Three Clubs. Heck, I went out by myself, in white pants and flats. Did I mention I’m new in town? No excuses. Go to Three Clubs and get your groove on. I’ll see you there.

May 2011 iMix

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

I encountered a few musical setbacks when compiling my May iMix. Mainly I’m sick of all the crap on iTunes. I can’t listen to any more Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or Black Eyed Peas without ripping my hair out. Then it donned on me. Dedicate this month’s iMix to RCRD LBL and their slew of amazing free music. Yes, you heard right. FREE. Sorry Steve Jobs (and my mom owns Apple stock), but I’m on a budget and your price increase from 99 cents to $1.29 is bullshit.

RCRD LBL describes themselves as the “premier online destination for free, curated, legal MP3 downloads from the hottest marquee of emergent artists.” I like RCRD LBL because they expand my music palate at a price that works with my pocketbook. Granted, some of the stuff is fucking weird, but aren’t we all? I guarantee you’ll find something here to make your toes tap.

What are you waiting for? Click here to start downloading your Memorial Weekend beats and spend that saved money on booze!

Gonpachi

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Tonight Lisa and I decided to indulge for our Friday business meeting with dinner at Gonpachi.

When I mentioned craving sushi this morning, she suggested we go out to eat. Since her husband hates sushi, Lisa will take any opportunity to get out for raw fish. “I could literally eat it [sushi] every day,” she said on our drive over.

Walking in to the restaurant, you pass through an antique moon gate reminiscent of old Japan. Guests are greeted by a garden and outdoor seating. Due to the time and temperature, we ate inside, which is equally as nice.

We ordered edamame, soba noodles, a Philly roll and the Temptation platter. As if we weren’t stuffed enough, we splurged on tempura ice cream for dessert. Unfortunately the ice cream pictures didn’t turn out, giving me an excuse to go back.

Service at Gonpachi is outstanding. Not only did our server Rick go above and beyond, throughout our meal management stopped by to make sure everything was taken care of. Little things like that make me even more apt to return to a restaurant.

Craving sushi in Beverly Hills? Want a restaurant with good drinks, great ambiance and outstanding food? It’s a no brainer. Check out Gonpachi located at 134 N. La Cienega Blvd. Click here and book your reservation now!

I know there’s #FollowFriday and #FashionFriday, but is #FishFriday a bit excessive?
