Photo of the Day: Day Three Hundred Thirty Two

Today I stumbled across this gem of a photo location and couldn’t contain my excitement.

Almost instantly, tweets and texts went out to Teresa, Brittanie and the boys of Elm and Olympia. I don’t want to go into the details of my photo vision, because people are thieves, but I will say this: if my photos turn out anything like I imagine, they’re going to blow the roof off previous shoots.

Ideal situation, I’d like to have a crew of ten or so for this shoot. It’ll take place when I get home from LA and we’ll probably in the morning. Interested? Wanna hop on the bus? Get at me and let’s make it happen!

Tonight I realized I have an addiction. An obsession. A disorder. I live, breathe and dream photos.

On this evening’s flight home from New York, we flew right across the Hudson River. A golden sunset backdrop behind the city skyline made for a picture perfect silhouette. The only problem? I sat on the other side of the plane! Nooooo!!

Once again, I debated breaking the rules to capture my shot. Do I get up during takeoff and sneak into the open seat? Do I risk getting TSA’d and going to jail? Would a mugshot make a good POTD? No, no and no.

As a result of my smart decision making, I could only obtain an amazing mental picture un-postable on my blog. Instead of the glorious skyline sunset photo I wanted, I took a picture of another stupid sunset. Bleh.

Some people thought I came to New York for vacation, others have asked if it’s for a design conference or work. Welp, I went to New York City for work, and this is what I did.

Model airplanes. I hung out with model airplanes.

For those of you unaware, my dad publishes RC Sport Flyer, the number one model airplane magazine in the world. Yes, the world. The publication focuses on RC electric, sport and slope airplanes, as well as helicopters. Looking to pick up a copy wherever you are? RC Sport Flyer is on newsstands and in hobby shops around the world.

Many days I ask myself why my dad couldn’t have gotten into a “cooler” sport like skiing, skating or biking, but apparently lots of other people find RC airplanes cool. Spring is expo/competition season so I’m fortunate enough to tag along to different events. Up next on the roster? Toldeo (which I’m ditching for my birthday), Orlando and Las Vegas!

Ok, so maybe airplanes aren’t that dorky. Who wants to rendezvous in Vegas? I miiight have to stay a few extra days…

New York City: Day Two

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Our second day in New York consisted of model airplanes, Fashion Friday, dinner at Azalea and seeing Wicked on Broadway.

I struck my signature “Fashion Friday in heels” pose in Grand Central Station. Props to Dad for being a sport and taking my picture. After braving the cold and more photos in Times Square, we picked up our Wicked tickets at the Gershwin Theater. The guy at will-call suggested Azalea for a delicious Italian dinner. Dad and I dined on calamari, bruschetta, veal, chicken and veggies. We even ordered apple pie and chocolate souffle for dessert. Wicked went until almost midnight, when we snagged a bike-cabby-thing to Grand Central to catch our train.

All in all, a successful second night in New York City. Our final two days will be jam packed with work, so I probably won’t write as much. I wish I had more time to relax, take photos and shop. Regardless, it’s been a great trip so far!

It’s Fashion Friday, Dad edition!

I wasn’t the only one amping up my attire for a night on Broadway. My dad looked dapper, stepping out in a Nordstroms jacket, slacks and shoes.

I snapped this photo with my dad’s point-and-shoot (obviously) in Times Square prior to our Broadway show. His timeless camel coat combined with the black and white photo edits screams 1940’s movie scene.
