Photo of the Day: Day Three Hundred Four

In light of Egypt’s protests, I decided to take a picture of Egyptian art my mom purchased on her trip to Cairo in 2009.

I have pretty mixed feelings regarding the protests. It is great the Egyptian people are standing up for their rights. I am a firm believer in democracy and freedom. I also believe Mubarak is corrupt and, let’s face it, after 30 years in power it’s time to go.

However, the aftermath of the protest is my bigger concern. Even if Mubarak steps down, reports say it will take roughly eight months for him to actually leave of office. In the intirium, what is going to happen? Will the protests continue? Will Mubarak actually follow through with his decision to step down? More importantly, who will take his place?

Politicians and reporters are scrambling to figure out the truth. Some news outlets report the US secretly backs the Muslim Brotherhood while others say there is an upcoming war with Israel. Some networks say the brotherhood is dangerous while others claim it is peaceful. What is the truth!?

Whatever happens, the uprising will be interesting to watch unfold. I only hope and pray that the people of Egypt remain safe and civilized in this time of unrest.

Who else has followed the protests in Egypt? Do you think the uprising is for the better or will it have a negative impact on Egypt’s political system? Let’s engage in a little discourse!

Black Swan

Monday, January 31st, 2011

I hate going to the movies. Theaters are usually cold, someone always makes side comments and I can’t help but think of the germs on the chairs. Yuck. I managed to put my hatred aside and finally see Black Swan. I’m glad I did because I cannot get enough.

From Natalie Portman‘s pointe portrayal of Nina Sayers to Rodarte‘s stunning tutu’s, this psychological thriller is sure to take home a couple Oscars.

As to be expected with any dance flick, it made me miss my performing days. Maybe once the new Gold’s opens I’ll throw on my ballet slippers and bust out a few moves in the aerobic room. Besides, I need a new dance photo for my gallery. Any requests? Turns, leaps, tilts?

Have you seen Black Swan? Likes? Dislikes? What do you think about Rodarte being snubbed for a Best Costume Oscar!?

If you’re in Tri-Cities, be there!

Unfortunately I’ll be in Seattle so I can’t make it. Elm & Olympia better record their demo soon, so I have music to listen to when I’m away.

Once again, amazing show to my friends at Elm & Olympia!

I popped this shot after their show, so technically I took it early this morning. I like the colors, clarity and focus so I’m making it my POTD.

Do people actually drink MGD? I’m not a big beer drinker, and when I do it’s usually Busch Light in a beer bong. Class act.

*Thank you again to the guys, who let me get on stage and play the tambourine for California Dreamin’. Seriously, highlight of my weekend. I think this needs to happen more often, maybe so I can get some pictures and video for the blog? :]

**I’ll post concert pictures later. I’m swamped this weekend.
