Lenseigne-McCoy Wedding

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Here’s a few more photos from today’s Lenseigne-McCoy wedding. Most weddings are a good time, but few weddings are as great a time as this.

I’ve been friends with Michelle for over 21 years. As a result, I’ve known most the wedding guests since grade school. It felt surreal to see people I’ve known for so many years together again. Throw in some spiked punch and few former dancers, and you’ve got a recipe for an unforgettable wedding reception!

What makes a wedding go from good to great? Any tips for spicing up a wedding reception?

Photo of the Day: Day One Hundred Twenty

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Congratulations to Michelle and Cory McCoy on their beautiful wedding.

This afternoon I met up with great friends, old and new, to celebrate the union of two amazing people. Speaking of amazing, Michelle’s dress was to die for. I loved the mermaid style, intricate details and tie up the back. She looked stunning.

To all my married ladies, any advice on wedding dress shopping? How do you go from thousands of dresses to just one?

Photo of the Day: Day One Hundred Nineteen

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Tonight Melissa compared lightning photography to gambling. Thinking about it, I realized the two share a lot of similarities. How do you time the photo? Should you take another shot? Is this the best location? Tonight I timed the photo, took the shot and found the money spot, hitting the jackpot with today’s POTD.

At almost 5 this morning I braved the lightning bolts, posted up in my dad’s front yard and gambled with my camera and tripod. The number one thing required for lightning photography is patience. I’d snapped almost fifty night photos and debated heading to bed when… CRACK! A huge lightning bolt struck during my shot. Trying to remain calm, I fist pumped the sky and thanked God for his perfect timing. As soon as I saw this photo I knew it would be my POTD. It’s electric!

Did you see tonight’s lightning storm? Thoughts? Anyone else take photos?

Lightning Photos

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I knew I’d take lightning photos sometime soon. Twice this week I dreamt about photographing lightning, and with tonight’s lightning storm my dreams became a reality.

According to, to see lightning in dreams signifies increased awareness, insight, spiritual revelation, truth and purification. Alternatively, lightning implies a shocking turn of events. Does this mean big changes are in my near future?

With so many lightning storms, I couldn’t choose just one location to photograph. On the way to the concert, Mel, Jordan and I stopped by Hills West to take this first lightning photo. Dropping Mel off after the bars, we stopped by the Richland-Pasco bridge to snap a few more pictures. The third picture I took in my dad’s front yard. Heat lightning boomed over the house, while bolts cracked in North Richland. Look in the distance. Can you see the lightning touch down?

While these pictures turned out alright, I’m saving my favorite lightning photo for today’s POTD. Uploading it in 3, 2, 1…

Elm & Olympia Ray’s Concert Coverage

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Here’s three of the three hundred photos from tonight’s Elm & Olympia concert at Ray’s Golden Lion.

Tonight’s lighting really tested my photography skills. Professional concerts (think Sasquatch or MIDI) have high power lighting, making photos a cinch. Ray’s, however, is not MIDI. Low lights and high energy made photos tricky, but after a song or two I’d worked around my dilemma.

If you haven’t heard Elm & Olympia live, you’re missing out. The band won Best of Show at the 2010 Water Follies Shine the Spotlight on Me talent show. Elm & Olympia perform almost every weekend so check back for upcoming events, or click here to find them on MySpace.
