Fashion Forward Faces: Fashion FAIL

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I usually only post looks I like but for some reason today I noticed a lot of couples wearing matching tops, sweatshirts or jackets. Unless you’re going to a Sadie Hawkins dance there is no excuse to wear matching outfits. Individually these outfits are fine. However, combined the matching tops, plaid shoes and bags are entirely too much.

So to all the couples out there who think is might be a good idea, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. It’s not cute and never will be. Want to show the world you’re a couple? Rock similar styles, go on dates, hold hands or make out in public (if you must) but please, please refrain from matching outfits. This look is a fashion FAIL!

Would anyone ever actually do something like this? Am I being cynical? I personally would be mortified if my (imaginary) boyfriend and I dressed like twins!

I snapped today’s POTD while showing my co-worker Huang Lin Ya how to use my camera. Ma Hai Yuan is focused on her work, so much I don’t think she realized I took her picture. Monday is a holiday so I am off for a three day weekend!

Wine Bar

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Last night Yvette and I went to her friend Simon’s new wine bar. Coincidentally, the wine bar is right below my apartment. New hangout spot? I think so.

Wine in China is relatively new (rice wine is not the same thing) and as a result it can be rather spendy. Simon’s goal is provide good, affordable wine in a high-end atmosphere. His wine bar is for members only. Members can store their bottles at the wine bar. They also receive a special, personalized glass to keep at the bar. Minimal space gives the wine bar a cozy, personal atmosphere great for business, friends and couples.

Simon plans to expand his company first in Beijing, then to other cities around China.

I believe Simon has a great business with the opportunity to be a huge success. I hope to work with him and help bring Eastern Washington wines to China. Eastern Washington shares the same latitude (46°N) as the prestigious French wine regions Bordeaux and Burgundy. It’s no wonder the number of Eastern Washington wineries increased 400 percent in the past decade. Currently there are 650 licensed wineries in Washington State. I feel we produce some of the best wine in the world. Eastern Washington wineries should be looking to expand to a market like China.

Please check back to see the progress of Simon’s wine bar. He has an event on Tuesday I plan to attend.

What do you think of Simon’s wine bar? I love places like this. They feel so personal. Do you know of any bars like this in the States?

Apple products and a bottle of wine can only mean one thing. Tonight I met up with Yvette! We’re talking marketing, research, b-roll, photography and cats. (meow) If you haven’t downloaded the Cat Translator app I highly recommend it!

Spring has sprung! Flowers are blooming and city workers are making sure the parks look good. Forecast calls for a high of 80 this weekend. Midi Music Festival here I come!
