Holiday parties are in full swing and a common theme is ugly sweaters. What constitutes an ugly sweater and where do you find one? I believe “ugly” is open to interpretation, but I’m partial to thrift store finds with a ton of holiday crap on them. Think snowmen, reindeer, lights, the works. What’s the only thing better than a vintage holiday sweater? A custom DIY’d vintage holiday sweater.
I don’t usually do DIY blogs, I leave that to DIY master Teresa, but after the success of this “ugly sweater” I decided to chronicle my next project.
My friend Kris needs an ugly sweater for a party next weekend. He’s in Ukraine this week so won’t have enough time to shop around. After seeing my ridiculously awesome custom sweater, he wanted one of his own. I started brainstorming and made a Goodwill run.
I walked into Goodwill and headed to the holiday garb. Balls are cheap (pun intended) so I stocked up. Next I browsed the sweater aisle. I found this sweet Kodak sweater (I almost kept it for myself) tagged “Professional Camera Wear.” Does such a thing exist? Apparently so. Making this sweater is relatively easy, but very time consuming. For over two hours I slaved away like a Chinese laborer, sewing ball after ball. I tried to balance the color, material and shape of the balls. The end result? One custom 3D sweater!
Will Kris have enough balls to wear this next weekend!? Who else is going to an ugly sweater party? What’s the ugliest (or most creative) sweater you’ve seen?
