In my excitement to edit Stanton James’ photos, I almost forgot about this gem, taken at the end of the night.

Street style: drunk. Can you spot the photo bomb?

Three Clubs

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

Last night I photographed The New Limb and Robotanists at Three Clubs in Hollywood.

My friend Joseph, also a Tri-Cities native, works in the music industry and suggested I come out to take pictures. I’m certainly glad I did. Three Clubs is a hip martini lounge reminiscent of classic LA. In an odd way, walking in the doors felt like walking back in time. But enough about decor, more about the bands…

Robotanists killed it and The New Limb left me dancing. Sarah, the singer of Robotanists, has a killer set of pipes and clearly great taste in heels. The New Limb, a self described IndieRockFolkAlt band, I could listen to for hours. Joseph said their last few tracks (and my personal favs) are new. Lauren, the keyboardist, gave me an album which will definitely be included in an upcoming iMix!

Looking to branch out musically? Check out The New Limb and Robotanists. Looking to branch out socially? Hit up Three Clubs. Heck, I went out by myself, in white pants and flats. Did I mention I’m new in town? No excuses. Go to Three Clubs and get your groove on. I’ll see you there.

Swingers Hollywood

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Swingers in Hollywood? Well, yes, I’m sure there are actual swingers in Hollywood, but there’s also this dive diner on Beverly and Laurel.

Last night my boss and I ate at Swingers while talking business. It’s got a great vibe, I would describe as hipster meets vintage rock. The crowd here is something else, and I love to people watch. I should probably linger here alone sometime and try to get a few more People Profiles.

We each ordered side salads, then split the vegan burrito, which you must try, even if you’re a meat eater. It’s packed with spinach, black beans, and these delicious grains that I can’t for the life of me remember right now. I’ve been cutting back on meat lately (in more ways than one, ha ha) so I might have to recreate this meal in my kitchen. Because you know how I get down in the kitchen.

I wouldn’t normally order cupcakes for dessert, especially with bikini season in full swing, but when Lisa suggested trying them, I couldn’t say no. And how could I? They’re big, moist and loaded with frosting. Sometimes a girl’s gotta splurge, right?

If you’re in Hollywood and looking for a laid back diner with delish dishes, do not pass up Swingers. They’re open every day from 6:30 AM to 4 AM. Look for the very American peace signs on the window!

Saddle Ranch

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Happy Easter! I hope everyone spent time with loved ones, enjoyed the weather and ate a hearty breakfast. Mom and I did breakfast at your less-than-typical Easter restaurant. We ate at Saddle Ranch.

Saddle Ranch is located in the heart of West Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard. With the wood exterior, wagon and saloon dressed dolls, you can’t miss it. And trust me, you don’t want to miss this “rock meets western” place.

On weekends or game days, this joint is jumping. Young adults pack the bar and patio. Can you blame them? Unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s are only $10. If you really want to get rowdy, there’s even a mechanical bull to ride.

Atmosphere aside, Saddle Ranch has some of the best breakfasts around for a great price. I can’t get enough of their cornbread and cinnamon butter. If I can purchase that somewhere, will someone let me know? Their bacon is the best too. Thick strips cooked in a sweet, syrupy goodness. These portions are huge, and if you’re nibbling on cornbread or filling up on drinks, you could get away with sharing a meal. Poof, hangover be gone!

I have to give a shout out to our server Christy for her excellent service. Thank you, thank you, thank you. She is stinkin’ cute, as are most the servers at Saddle Ranch, so try to avoid that disheveled appearance after a rough night out. I’m also pretty sure I spied a former Tool Academy contestant working the bar… If I didn’t, well homeboy needs a style intervention STAT.

Looking for good food, great atmosphere and unlimited drinks until 3 PM? Screw Denny’s. Round up your hungover crew and hit up Saddle Ranch for a Saturday brunch that can’t be beat!
