Never Forget

The Tian’anmen Square massacre happened only 23 years ago. Hundreds, if not thousands, died for freedom.

Think it can’t happen here? Think of NDAA. Inform yourself. Prepare yourself.

Should the American Flag Be Banned – in America?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I can’t even believe I just asked that question. It seems absurd doesn’t it? I mean, why ban something that represents our country, our forefathers, our freedom and our fallen soldiers? Believe it or not, some American’s feel we should do just that. Ban the American flag.

Fox News created the poll following an incident in California where several high school students were sent home after wearing shirts displaying the American flag. Fox News asked the question: Should the American flag be banned in America?

MoveOn.org, Organizing for America, SEIU and other liberal sites sent out tweets encouraging followers to vote “yes” on the issue. The result? As of yesterday, more people felt the flag should be removed than kept.

What is going on with Americans? Where is our love for the grand old flag? How does the flag offend you? Why ban something that represents everything our country stands for? If America is such a horrible country, why not leave? We have the freedom to do so, unlike other countries that I’m sure also proudly display their national flag.

I can’t imagine someone in China suggesting to remove the Chinese flag “because they are offended.” Regardless of your political opinions towards China, there is no denying their patriotism to their country. Even all school aged children are required to wear red scarves around their necks. The Chinese love and support their country.

The fact that Americans actually believe this saddens me. I wonder what the future will be like for my children. Aside from sadness, I also feel anger and a call to action. Instances like this reiterate the importance of democracy. It is so important to be politically active, no matter what side of the aisle you’re on. I might be young, but I am a political firecracker. I know someday I will be involved in politics. Who knows, Bess Belleau Byers, governor 2024?
