Photo of the Day: Day One Hundred Seventy Seven

September 26th, 2010 , Bess

Is this the The Eye of Sauron? No, definitely not. We’re not in Lord of the Rings, but tonight’s sunset certainly looked like it.

I’m trying to shy away from a bazillion sunset photos because a) they get old and b) everyone shoots them. However, I couldn’t resist tonights sunset. In fact, since my dad sold his house, sunsets have been especially sentimental.

For almost 20 years I’ve watched the sun set from our house on the hill. When my parents built their pad, they planned to have our front porch facing west, facing the sunsets. Tonight I saw the pink clouds streak across the sky like cotton candy pulled thin. It hit me hard. I won’t have this view much longer.

I sprinted upstairs, grabbed my temporary camera and climbed on the roof. I snapped a few pictures before reflecting on life. I thought of the thousands of sunsets taken for granted. As silly as it seems, never take a sunset for granted, as it could possibly be your last.

Who else saw tonight’s firey sunset? I snapped a legit panoramic shot which I’ll post tomorrow. Of all my sunset photos, do you have a favorite?

*Thanks to my mom and Kelly for the heads up about the sundown!
