In light of Egypt’s protests, I decided to take a picture of Egyptian art my mom purchased on her trip to Cairo in 2009.
I have pretty mixed feelings regarding the protests. It is great the Egyptian people are standing up for their rights. I am a firm believer in democracy and freedom. I also believe Mubarak is corrupt and, let’s face it, after 30 years in power it’s time to go.
However, the aftermath of the protest is my bigger concern. Even if Mubarak steps down, reports say it will take roughly eight months for him to actually leave of office. In the intirium, what is going to happen? Will the protests continue? Will Mubarak actually follow through with his decision to step down? More importantly, who will take his place?
Politicians and reporters are scrambling to figure out the truth. Some news outlets report the US secretly backs the Muslim Brotherhood while others say there is an upcoming war with Israel. Some networks say the brotherhood is dangerous while others claim it is peaceful. What is the truth!?
Whatever happens, the uprising will be interesting to watch unfold. I only hope and pray that the people of Egypt remain safe and civilized in this time of unrest.
Who else has followed the protests in Egypt? Do you think the uprising is for the better or will it have a negative impact on Egypt’s political system? Let’s engage in a little discourse!
