Wakeboarding in winter? Why not!?

The Third Annual Polar Bear Ride takes place next Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10 AM at at Clover Island. The event is hosted by Sporthaus, CWB and Tri-City riders. The event benefits Wishing Star, and all proceeds will be donated to a child in need. If you’re feeling generous this holiday season, feel free to cut a check to Wishing Star. I will make sure it’s delivered. Your sponsorship is greatly appreciated :]

I’m supposed to ride Hood this weekend, but I might have to fanagle my schedule. Wakeboarding and snowboarding in the same weekend? Yes puh-lease!

Anyone ever been wakeboarding in the winter? I rode last year. The water didn’t kill me, but my muscles the next day certainly did!

Grandma and Grandpa’s

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

On my way up to Seattle I stopped by Grandma and Grandpa Byers’ house.

I dropped off their Christmas present and hoped to snag a hot meal before hitting the road. As always, Grandma Jenny served up one huge plate of food. She made scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, toast, homemade jam and coffee. Luckily I’d barely eaten, so I scarfed down.

Halfway through my meal Grandma started to pull out jewelry. She said she’s getting old and needs to unload stuff. A true statement, but one I don’t like to think about. Grandma showed me Great-Grandma Belleau’s jewelry. Piece after piece looked like stuff I’d wear today. Grandma didn’t want it, so passed it on to me.

Grandma is also an avid gardener. Her gardens attract humming birds in the summer and she keeps them year-round with feeders. Today we saw three humming birds hover at the feeder. I managed to snap a few photos, but their wings move too dang fast!

Before taking off I took a photo of my grandparents. I bought them a frame for Christmas and wanted a photo for it. I snapped a couple of them, then set up the tripod for a group shot. Grandma will love it.

It baffles me how times change, yet some things remain constant. My Great-Grandma Belleau sewed, played piano and apparently had an affinity for awesome jewelry. Something tells me we would’ve gotten along well.

What relatives do you take after? Any interesting family history?

Another picture of the angel girl Grey!

Grey is my buddy. Tonight we watched Handy Manny and snuggled on the couch. Grey also laughed uncontrollably to my funny dancing and kisses. A.dor.a.ble.

Kids creep me out, but they can also be cute. While I certainly don’t want a child right now, being an aunt is always fun :]

Do you have little cousins, nieces or nephews? Tips on taking care of them?

Sorry I’ve been off the grid lately. Between holidays, road tripping, limited WiFi and little nuggets like this girl, I’ve been too busy to blog. Sorry, life happens.

I came to Tacoma for a few days to relax, work and hang with my bestie Amy. I lived with Amy for three years in college, and we always have a blast. There’s been a new addition to our fun, and that’s Amy’s baby Grey.

Honestly, I don’t like babies. They eat, poop, cry, drool, are totally dependent… It all freaks me out. I definitely do not foresee myself as a parent for another 10+ years. I do, however, like some babies. Amy’s baby Grey is one of those select few.

Grey is the most adorable little nugget you’ve ever seen. She has big blue eyes, chubby cheeks, itty bitty fingers and the most precious personality. I’m going to take more photos of Grey while I’m in town. Get ready, she even melted my (sometimes cold) heart!

The Truth About China

Monday, December 27th, 2010

I realized last week marked six months of being home from China. I dug into my computer archives and found a blog I’d remembered writing.

I wrote this blog while sleep deprived in the Tokyo airport. During my last three days in China, I’d only gotten one hour of sleep. I was that busy. I popped three Tylenol PM and started writing. Words flowed freely in my sleep starved mental state. I wrote exactly what I felt: my thoughts, feelings and emotions. Then I fell asleep, only to wake up to my flight departing in 20 minutes. I got on the plane, passed out and forgot all about this blog. Until now.
