Sammy and Blake Skate

Friday, August 27th, 2010

This afternoon I met up with my friend Sammy for lunch and photos in Green Lake.

After a delicious and filling lunch at the Eastlake Bar & Grill we swooped up Sammy’s roommate Blake and mobbed to the skate park for pictures.

Ideally I’d want to shoot photos at dawn or dusk when the park isn’t crawling with kids, but beggars can’t be choosers. Besides, I’ve got my fisheye to play with. I adjusted my camera for the bright lighting and got snap happy.

Sammy and Blake rode around the park doing tricks I’m unable to name. (Pardon my lack of skateboard jargon) They hit rails, ollied steps and rode the pool.

When I’m in Seattle again we’re getting here, and getting here early. This place is perfect for photos. For now these will do. If you skate and want some pictures contact me. I’ll shoot them for free because I’m trying to expand my portfolio. Plus I have some ideas for lighting and lenses! :]

Annie Bixler as Mary Kate Olsen?

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Here are four photos from last night’s shoot with Annie Bixler.

I snapped these by a West Richland coffee shop called Indulgences. The wall by their drive-thru is bright orange. I hoped the orange wall against Annie’s dress would stand out.

Unfortunately we missed the sunlight and our photos took an interesting turn. I shot these (and all our photos) in manual mode. I positioned Annie under a light. Teresa held the Photo Flex and bounced light into her shadows. Our outcome? Semi-focused photos that, in my mom’s opinion, resemble the Olsen Twins.

This is the first of four fashion blogs featuring my homegirl and vintage gem Annie Bixler. Check back to see which alter-ego she assumes next!

Photo of the Day: Day One Hundred Forty Six

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

“Well we knew we’d missed the boat and we’d already missed the plane…”

Ok, not so much. That’s just me jamming to some Modest Mouse. Tonight Mom and I drove to Bainbridge Island to visit family. Unfortunately we missed the boat due to an overload.

I snapped a few photos of the waterfront and took in the sunset. This photo, as all my photos from here on out, I shot in manual mode. 1/160 sec at f/6.3, 18 mm, ISO 100.

Have you ever traveled by ferry? I take some of my best Seattle skyline photos from the boat.

Harvest Moon

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Sorry for the abundance of moon photos lately. One of my favorite things about this time of year is the big, bright orange harvest moons. Tonight’s moon is by far one of the best I’ve seen. In between shooting with Teresa and Annie I couldn’t help but snap this photo.

Where do you like to post up and watch the moon? I’m always on the hunt for new photo locations!

Photo of the Day: Day One Hundred Forty Five

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

This evening, with the help of Teresa, I photographed the flawless Annie Bixler. So what makes this picture my POTD? Well, a couple things…

First and foremost, I did absolutely nothing to edit this photo. The light, Annie’s skin, her hair, the scenery, everything is exactly as I captured it. To me, it represents natural beauty at its finest. Second, Annie is one cool cat. I planned to post a rad river panorama as today’s POTD, but Annie is waaay cooler than the Columbia River so out goes that idea. Follow her on Twitter by clicking here! Finally, I’ve been told when you photograph light orbs you’re photographing angels. Well, it looks like Annie’s got a few angels protecting her. Loves it.

What do you think about unedited pictures? Don’t get me wrong, I love Photoshop and Lightroom but sometimes the natural beauty of a photograph gets lost in crazy edits.

*I’m heading to Seattle/Gorge tomorrow so it’ll be a few days before I post the rest of these photos. Definitely check back because they are phenomenal!

Teresa Does It… And Does it Well

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Here are a few more photos of my friend and DIY extraordinaire Teresa.

I love this series of photos. I love the sunset. I love the moon. I love the fisheye lens. I love the stripe down the road. Most of all, I love the model who is one of the best friends I could ever ask for!

Have you told your friends lately how much they mean to you? Dooo it! What have you got to lose!?

Side Note/Self Advertisement: I’ve received a lot of positive feedback about my belt buckle boots. If you’re interested in getting a pair, click here to contact Teresa!

August Full Moon

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Ow ow owwwww! That would be my attempt at a wolf howl…

Did anyone else see the big, beautiful full moon tonight? After our DIY afternoon I spotted this big guy creeping over the horizon. I needed a photo, so I drove like a mad woman (not really, but kind of) to a lookout point in Richland. The moon rises quickly so my time was limited. Luckily I made it in time and snapped this marvelous moon photo.

Did anything weird happen to you tonight? The full moon allegedly has an odd effect on people and animals. In fact, the word “lunacy” comes from lunar. “The freaks come out at night, the freaks come out at niiiight…”
